Fern Orchestra's Gardens -Plant Series X exhibition brings plant-based art to Gallery Uusi Kipinä; the Monteraf will be working on site throughout the exhibition from 19 October to 6 November 2022.
The exhibition will feature a band of houseplants, a composing montera and the world's first film dedicated to plants.
"Plant Bubble" (2021) is both a band of houseplants and an interactive light and sound installation that the public can play. What do ferns sound like when they are touched, sprayed and illuminated? The information sent by sensors attached to the plants is converted into sound. The Fern Orchestra's human members will organise a plant jam at the opening ceremony, where you will also have the opportunity to experience the plantsation. At the jams, anyone can find a plant instrumentalist inside and play Paranoid.
In "Notation of a Monstera" (2022), a monstera will draw its function as a work of art during the exhibition period. The graphic notation created during the gallery residency is reportedly the world's first composition written by a plant.
The video work "Perceptions" (2021) is a film for plants, which can also be watched by humans together with the plant. The film explores light-induced movement as a triptych from the perspective of light, human and plant. Which plant would you like to bring into the movies? The work may contain potentially upsetting material for sensitive plants. It is possible to borrow an escort plant from the gallery to watch the film with if your own plant cannot make it.
