A Solo Essay

In her work lighting designer Vespa Laine creates a miniature world; closed, independent ecosystem in which light, base of photosynthesis serves its original function as a source of life.

A bottle garden founded in 2014 forms a basis of the work.  Living in their own biosphere plants recycle oxygen, water and nutrients. The miniature world of a closed jar works independently and it needs only light. Symbol of solo essay is a Fern.

Sensors are attached to the plants to measure electrical resistance, which is converted to audible form. ”Ferns” will continue in spring 2018, as a mission to explore if plants learn to communicate with their surroundings by changing their electrical resistance when the circumstances are changed adverse.
